My zinnias are dying... Is this a disease?

Springdale, AR

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my zinnias? I bought them and planted them about a week ago and they looked healthy. Over one week the leaves are turning brown and wilting from the bottom up. I don't see any pictures online that they look similar too. What can I do (preferably organically) to help them? I have always had zinnias and never had any problems whatsoever, which is one of the reasons I love them!

Thanks

Looks like powder mildew to me. I would take this to your local garden center and ask there. They may have other customers experiencing the same issue.

When starting new plants from seed there is a fungus that causes the plants to die off. This is called damping off. It is a result of conditions being overly moist. This damping off may be another cause of what is occuring but on your zinnias but your pictures show what looks more like a fungus.

In late summer when the hot dry period of July is over in our area and we get some cooler nigts, my zinnias will often be covered with a grey powder substance which is powder mildew. This mildew is the result of warm but moist conditions such as cool night where dew accumulates on the leaves and stem over night. When the morning arrives the sun heats up the air temperatures relatively quick setting up perfect conditions for the mildew to develope.

I hope you can find a solution so you don't loose your zinnias.
