starting specialty plants without seed

Millbury, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi,

I'm interested in starting "specialty" plants that will not come true to form.

I have done as much research as "the average" gardener is allowed online, and cannot figure out how a grower starts plants that will not grow true from seed. are they plugs or grown on a fiber mat are they tissue cultures or is there someplace a professional grower CAN but these seeds where the ordinary person cannot?

The varieties im talking about are
heucherella, echinacea, brunnera, tiarella, heuchera, begonia (rex)
if i need a license ill get one, but i want to grow these plants and have them come out the way they are supposed to not as the ordinary variety.
i've learned the hard way, that double echinacea seeds are sold online, but beware - they WILL NOT come out that way, you'll end up with the simple (yet still beautiful) SINGLE purple echinacea.

I am reading about "microgreens" and i wonder if growers buy flats of specific plants and transport them when they are bigger, but I want to start them myself if possible.

Thank you in advance for your answers and any info on this subject is welcome.

Dividing the roots to get more plants is the simplest, for plants with root types that allow it. Otherwise, propagate cuttings. You can read volumes on both if you want to ( though division is so very basic that a great deal of investigation isn't necessary).

"Microgreens", so far as I am familiar with the term, usually refers to growing various edibles from seed and harvesting them at a young stage.
