I live in Michigan, I've been getting bites, which I thought at first might be bedbugs, but none of the telltale black stains. These little tiny black dots are all over my windowsill. When crushed, they smear a reddish color. I think it's mites, hoping someone can ID it so I can figure out if that's what's biting me.
Small bug/mite need an ID
These are clover mites, very common and completely harmless to humans. They can be nuisance pests when they occur indoors, as they can leave a reddish stain when crushed. See http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/orn/mites/clover_mite.htm
