weather in the garden # 139

Thomaston, CT

I picked veggies for a few minutes...that was it...too hot! Clouds moved in overnight, & it's cooler this morning....

South Hamilton, MA

74° but 86 predicted for this afternoon.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

At least there's been some overnight rain this week. It's very humid, though. I'd like it better if I was a plant.

Thomaston, CT

Very heavy showers yesterday....gardens have happy faces this morning......high 80s today, but lower humidity....

South Hamilton, MA

73° just a couple drops of rain last night. We could have used some.

South Hamilton, MA

76° it will be 84 by 1 pm

Thomaston, CT

Mid 80s today, chance of showers later this afternoon....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Passing thunderstorms twice so far today. Low 80's otherwise, so some work is possible.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Hurray, we got rain this am! Otherwise close to 90 degree days.

South Hamilton, MA

70° our thunder boomer + half inch of rain earlier this morning. temp going to 79, then dropping & returning to 79. weird.

South Hamilton, MA

61° the total rainfall was just under an inch & a half, included pellet sized hail. Power went out 3:15 pm & came back on 3:05 am.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

That's not good!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow! You got hammered! We got a good amount of rain, several thunderstorms but no hail, and the lights stayed on for a change. pretty nice now.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

My daughter lives in Mission Hill, and the hail broke the windshield and pitted the roof of her car. That was pretty normal in Texas.

South Hamilton, MA

Evidently some trees were down on our line or we would not have last power.

Thomaston, CT

Came back yesterday from NH.....storm was pretty fierce at Mascoma Lake, but short-lived......when Doug's niece went to check on the house in town, a maple trunk was on the roof of the house....she's not sure how much damage because the tree is being removed today.....weather here is sunny & high 70s....lovely!

South Hamilton, MA

70 here Some branches down, but just one fell on the deer fencing.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

It's going to be a nice day here, too.

I know this is off topic....sorry
I wanted to share my son's new job with you and ask for your help. Right now he and his family are living in his MIL's basement in Foxboro and the commute is HORRENDOUS!! It is what it is right now so they can search for housing for them without feeling rushed. They would like to look northwest Boston. They are looking at Lexington and Concord, but are very open to most anything that would make the commute better. My question for you all is if you have any leads or know a good real estate person to help in their search. Thank you

There are some real estate people who come to mind in Lexington. We liked Judy Alexander when we were looking because she listened to what we said about what types of houses we wouldn't want to waste time on. We see she's still around.

Finding real estate in this area is tough this time of year. There is a weekend in late May when people who want to sell tend to have open houses. Then the method is to list the house somewhat low but accept bids. The bids go quite a bit over asking price or assessment price because it is a seller's market right now, especially for the lower priced homes. With that in mind, I would recommend renting in order to get a beeter understanding of the area. It can easily take a year to get a sense of the real estate market, even with help. If you want me to look at other names of agents why not send me a dmail?

South Hamilton, MA

67° & damp & gloomy today

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

And here it is 70 with passing clouds, but so far no showers. Between yesterday and today I got a lot of weeding and mulching done, the two jobs that are season-long activities for me.

Oh, yes, sometimes I dig up rocks so I can plant something.

Hakira Nishimi looks great with salvias, nepetas, and weeping spruces in pictures of Cady's Falls Nursery in Vt., and I am unabashedly willing to copy something nice. Well, the baby Bush's Lace Engleman spruce that inspired me to rip out a peony in midseason (a mortal blow to the peony, no doubt) has really weak roots so it may perish after two years of nurturing in a pot, and the hole I started for the very rooty willow is full of rocks. Stymied again.

One the brighter side, some of the planting beds are getting some nice rocks near them, and the dry river of rock is longer and winding. And there are more rocks by the side of the peony bed, waiting to be moved.

And since I'm off topic, I will share that I ordered Cedrus Aurea Robusta from Bloomriver Gardens in Oregon for fall to plant in a fairly sunny but protected corner of my house. They are giving me a plant two feet higher than I paid for, so this may be a new plant source. Since it is rated zone 6 there is really only this one spot possible for it. Teddy Bear magnolia grandiflora thrived over the winter nearby, so there reason for some confidence.

So, the cool weather makes it possible to dream about the future and make the present look OK

Thomaston, CT

Garden is like concrete, so we really need rain.....warm & sunny again tomorrow....rain for Tues. Jan, congrats to your son on his new job! I have a friend who's selling her condo in Foxboro, but her daughter is a real estate agent in Harvard....Jennifer Russo....have known the family all my life & trust them implicitly! Good luck in the house hunt!

I heard about a bear in Newton recently and we had sightings in my town a few years ago. Is Ds' farm in the suburbs, too, Robin?

For once it looks like weather is pretty much the same in this whole region.

It's wierd that the birds up and left Seahorse Island off Tampa Florida one day last week. Makes me wonder if the storm there triggered it somehow.
