My Intro

Frederick, MD

Yes, my two beautiful and sweet Ragamuffin girls (sisters from the same litter who look nothing or act nothing alike) love to sit out there in the screened in porch, watch the beautiful birds and dream of doing terrible things to them and then having their very first bird breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I would think I died and went to Heaven if I had a sun room!

All this stuff of hauling plants down the Shop for winter--and then
hoping they make it--is a lot of work.
Trying to grow cuttings and seeds under lights--just so much to attend to.

If I had a sun room--my Brugs would bloom all through winter...and so would
my beautiful Hibiscus--which, at this time, is outside, all cut back, and growing
new leaves. It is my 1st 'go" with a tropical Hibiscus--and I wan to succeed.

I am so impatient--but then I have to remind myself that it was MAY just a few days ago.

I will turn it into a sun room eventually, Gita. But for right now, it's just a screened in porch. There is screening all the way around but no windows. So in the winter, it's as cold as the outside temperature.

One year in the near future I will replace those screens with windows and then yes... very nice place to bring in the more sensitive plants for the winter. Would be able to grow more zone 7 and above plants in my yard too. Always a great benefit.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

That screened-in porch sounds wonderful! My aging, arthritic, deaf cat would *LOVE* it. I'm very tasty to mosquitoes, so it would be wonderful for me, too.

Frederick, MD

Bring that kitty here with you at the Fall Swap and he/she can hang out there with my girls. :)

Mosquitoes love me too... I could be an a group of 50 people and be the only one bitten. Very few things on earth I dislike more than mosquitoes.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

LOL, Cam, you're so kind to invite my kitty, but she hates other cats! She shakes in the corner and growls when there's another cat nearby.

I live near Happy_macomb (who's been too busy to participate here lately) and went to her house once to drop off some plants. After a few minutes of talking to her in her driveway, I walked away literally bleeding from the mosquito bites. She was so surprised to see the *swarms* of mosquitos that had gathered around me within just minutes.

SS--I just Goggled why some people attract mosquitoes and others do not.

There are endless links to click on to find out why. Here is one.... Google rocks!

SSG, my two girls wouldn't know what to think of your cat... they'd be like... Really ? Everybody loves us, what's up with this guy ? hahaha

Gita... one of the first things that article says, mosquitoes like O blood type. O positive here. Ha.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

That might explain why the mosquitoes don't particularly like me then. DH and I were just discussing blood types the other night, and he asked me "Do you know your blood type"... funny, my blood type is just like my personality: B Positive! =)

Frederick, MD

Haha, Speedie... cute !

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Good one, speedie!!! And I would concur.

O positive here also. I think we need to have a contest to see who could get the most bites. I would definitely be a contender. Actually, that doesn't sound appealing at all. That is one contest I really do not want to win. UGH!!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

My blood type is my personality too A negative lol... And, I do not seem to get bitten by mosquitos when everyone else in the group I'm with is.

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't get swarmed. I'm also lucky that I don't react much to the bites; e.g., my youngest daughter gets big red itchy welts but I can't even tell where the bite was.

Ssg, when you said your yard was full of rocks, you weren't kidding! The largest I've found is about one cubic foot.

Speedie, I swear that when I dig in my side bed, which I've deep dug many times, new rocks have worked their way towards the surface. That's probably not possible, but it sure seems that way.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

My blood type is also O, but I can never remember if I'm O+ or O-. Either way, I'm tasty!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

A POS-- in case somebody is taking notes...and when I'm the only one on the garden they like me fine.
I find it fascinating that I get bit up in my garden where I try to keep up with no standing water etc, yet when we got to the river in the woods , we rarely see a skeeter.

I would love and use a sleeping porch. My dream house will have one- with a fireplace. When I was a kid, one friend's family had house with a 'Florida room' it seemed quite 'ultra' compared to mine, and most friend's, brick cape cods.

I look forward to meeting the kitties, Cam. we also have a pair of sibling kitties, one friendly and one very shy. Siblings, lol. The friendly one came first and bonded to people especially women, and the shy one, half brother or different litter actually, came later and got MUCH shyer when the shephard came to live here.

Frederick, MD

Sally, you'll meet at least one of them. When I had a house warming party, Kennedy, the shy one of the two, wasn't to be found the entire four hours. One person comes over, she will come out after she gets used to their voice, maybe 30 minutes. But a crowd, she'll have none of that. Her sister, Reagan, will be glad to be petted and held and she'll even kiss you if you let her. No shyness in that one. :)

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

I think there might be something (at least a little bit, maybe) about that blood type thing 'cause when at work, where there's loads of skeeters, I could walk into a swarm of them while watering plants, be in amongst the swarms of them around the water features and standing water... all day in and around all of 'em, and go home with maybe bite at the end of the day.

Sally, that sounds like a lovely dream house! Mine is gonna have a wrap-around porch, ALL the way around the house. Lots of room for LOADS of potted plants everywhere! =)

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Aawwww, she sounds like a sweetheart! I look forward to meeting them as well. I love the sound of a little kitty motor-boat purrrrrr. =)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Don't worry, Speedie, when you visit my dream house there will be lots of open porch space as well.

Frederick, MD

You will love my two girls, Speedie... they purrrrrrrrrrrrr like lions. :)

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Then you will find me in a corner somewhere, quietly enjoying a little motor boat (or 2) in my lap. =)

Frederick, MD

I'll tell them so they are prepared for you, Speedie. :)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

doing their little 'kneading paws' workouts..."and...knead 2 3 4 ..."

Frederick, MD

Haha.. ain't that the truth ! Mine come to the bed at night and start kneading to make a comfy spot to lay down and they'll go at it for 20 minutes or more. Geez, I thought I was picky! hahaha

Speaking of my cats, for those of you following along with my quest to find a suitable woman... the woman I last spoke of and I had been out about a half dozen times. Last time was THE LAST TIME. Now, she had mentioned cat allergies before but it was rather casual and said she could just take allergy medicine. So she comes over and sure enough, her allergies start acting up. So she says to me.... you know, sometimes you have to make sacrifices in a relationship. I agreed, but just what did she mean ?? She goes on to say that I can give my cats away because she can't come over to my house again until I do. Yeah... ummm.... unless you know I love you already, do not ask me to get rid of my cats for you. So I got rid of her instead.

Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

Perfect move on your part. I have a coffee cup that says 'I got rid of my husband, the cats were allergic'.

Haha... love it, Catbird ! :)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wasn't meant to be, apparently

Frederick, MD

:) NOPE.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Personally--I am worth more than any cat or dog....I would try to find a compromise.

In your situation--I would walk away--not the other way around.

Frederick, MD

If I had any inkling she was a definite keeper, I would have tried hard to work things out. She wasn't.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Maybe you are trying too hard. ??

Chill--and let the women who find you interesting come to YOU!
Play indifferent--or hard to get--and see how hard the ladies are willing to work
to "get you"....
Have some coffee dates--nothing serious...If a woman would
find you interesting and attractive--then she would make the first move.
And PLEASE!!!! Do not try for sex on the first or second or third date! BAD!!

Just my 2 cents--but most women can tell when someone is too desperate
to find someone to date. Message it sends---"I am not worth anything
unless I have a woman to call my own"

Try to get involved in hobies and social activities that you REALLY like--
and your enthusiasm will come shining through. People will notice that!

Happy sailing! Gita

Frederick, MD

Haha... thanks for the advice but I'm not exactly new at dating, Gita. And desperate ? Far from it. And sex early in the relationship... hardly ever.

Again, thanks.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

OK! I will "hang up my shingle" and shut up my mouth.
You know what you are doing......and I don't....Sorry if my advice offended you.

I am not really interested in dating at my age. I'd love a Buddy! Someone to go out to dinner with, to a movie--take walks, and such. A Pal.... IF such a thing exists nowadays....
G.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

CAM, what a thing to ask of somebody, especially just a few dates into a relationship! When my dear friend Ann started dating her DH, she knew right away he was likely "a keeper" -- but she also knew he was really allergic to cats, and she had a lovely big cat named Bogart. She was worried that she might have to find her beloved cat another home if they got serious... when she brought up the subject, he snorted and said, don't be ridiculous, that's what allergy shots are for. THAT is how a "keeper" handles things.

Gita, don't worry about CAM... I think I got a good sense of him at his house-warming party (Joyanna and I went specifically to meet his kitties)... he's confident and comfortable with who he is, has a lovely home he's enjoying... I think he's on the lookout but not desperately seeking!

There are other singles (men & women) looking for "pals" to do things with... take the advice you gave CAM just now, get out and involved in group activities, make some new friends nearby! Maybe there are even some people at work you can think of who would like to stop off for a cup of coffee after you finish your work day.

Frederick, MD

Thank you, Jill but no worries, Gita was trying to help, I'm sure. And I invited that by posting about my dating life. I'll keep the discussion about gardening from here out.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

If I lived closer I would volunteer to babysit the kitties while you had a new "friend" over to visit. =) Sally, I love when cats do that kneading thing.. I call it "making kitty", heehee.

Frederick, MD

Haha.... Thanks. But any new friend has to get used to the kitties. Most people adore my two little girls so normally no issue. Just had that one woman who gave me the ultimatum. :)

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

She's clearly not worth your time. There's a marvelous gem out there for you somewhere, I just know it!! < =)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Speedie---

Cats or Kittens usually do that kneading thing when they are nursing.
Perhaps it stimulates milk production in the mama. ?

Some adult cats seem to have never outgrown this habit...I think
it is a loving thing they do.....

My daughter calls it "Making Muffins".....:o)
