Landscaping ideas for an area with heavy leaf fall?

Williamstown, NJ

We live in a heavily wooded area near a lake in South Jersey. Every fall the leaves are ridiculous on our property. The front walkway has some bushes and flowers that we will be taking out because so many leaves get stuck in this area because of the plants there and it just never looks nice. We mulched a few years but all the mulch gets blown away with the leaf blower or rake every fall so we're looking for some ideas that would brighten this area up and wouldnt be a hassle with all the leaves. Maybe just grow some grass there and leave it at that? I have no idea. Thank you in advance!

Grass has to be mowed which would be a total pain in the neck there, and trimming edges might also drive you nuts. How about Liriope spicata or Ophiopogon japonicus 'Gyoku-Ryu'. These are grassy groundcovers, but do not need mowing, and should be tough enough to tolerate a blower or rake!
Then you could put matching trellises up the walls, and grow Clematis vines (pick a Clematis from "Pruning Group 3" which means every spring you just cut it off at about 1 foot off the ground and let it grow up again. The other kinds are too hard to prune and end up with a tangled mess of dead twigs), or maybe a really big pot or two by the door, to plant a few flowers in the summer?

Here is a link to a nursery that has a lot of things like this:

jvazquez80: How about a container garden? This would allow you to make either a shade garden or a sunny garden. It would also allow you to add some interest to your entry way by adding some seasonal accessories. You could also change out the plants when you want, such as pansies in the early springs, geraniums for the summer and then put some mums or fall asters for late summer and fall. You could add some landscape stone to also change and add interest. Since you have a water spigot in the area you could also have water feature of some sort. When the leaves fall in the fall and pile up, then a leaf blower could easily be used to blow the leaves away or into a pile so you could despose of them.
