My parents bought this lot and it has some interesting trees on it were trying to figure out what they are, anyone know? Seem to have see pod about as big as a flute
Mystery Tree
Common name for tree would be Catalpha. Hope that is helpful.
Yes, definitely a happy and healthy Catalpa with last year's seed pods hanging, and this year's flowers start to bud.
Two species of this tree are common, but I don't know which prefer growing in Texas.
Catalpa speciosa and Catalpa bignonioides are the two choices.
One gets to be a larger diameter tree than the other and that is the best way for me to tell the difference. We have both in our area. We have a tree with at least a 36" diameter and another that is about 15" diameter tree. I have noticed in the winter the cardinals occasionally eat from the dried catalpha beans.
