I was given some LOV pips that had been mail-ordered. the giver was not certain how long they had been stored, but guessed summer through winter. they have never been planted; still in original packaging.
Will i be able to use these pips; will they grow after being stored all this time, or are they a lost cause? Don't want to go through the process if nothing is going to happen; who wants that disappointment? haha.
If they're plantable, can i plant them now and expect any growth/blooms?
Thanks in advance for any advice and information.
Lily-of-the-Valley: storing and planting
Unless you can tell that they're dead (totally dried up and brittle?), it's worth planting them. They're pretty hard to kill.
A friend of mine gave me a ( look like dead ) couple pips (twig) of Variegated Leaves Pink Lily of the Valley and planted it on 12 cm terracotta pot. I just planted it on well drain soil ( mixed with perlite ) and left it under my hydrangea bush. I actually didn't water it regularly ( i guess with the amount of rain pour we receive here in Southwest, England the pot don't need watering at all ) and totally forgotten it. Alas this year i see 6 sprouting shoots from the pots ( excited to see the blooms ) and that is after 2 years of overwintering in the same pot. So don't throw it by luck it will grow next year and give you a good fragrant blooms.
