Hi I recently purchased a sephirine drouhine climbing rose to train on my fence, after purchasing it and before planting it I noticed it was getting black spot disease. After asking here I learned that this rose is prone to this disease so I went out and bought something for black spot and now it's dying! The next day after I applied this product the rose was drooping all the petals plus the rose buds I kept watering it in hopes that it would come back, all the buds still opened but not all the way and now it's drying up. Should I continue to care for it or should I cut my losses? It's a beautiful climbing rose but I'm wondering if it's going to be more work than its worth, plus I'm new at this so maybe I'm in over my head. Any help us appreciated!
sephirine drouhin climbing rose dying! Help! 😢
The directions say "Do not treat plants grown in pots, flower boxes or other containers," and it looks as if your rose is in a pot. Since the product is poured into the soil, the dose may have been too strong for that limited amount of soil.
If the pot has good drainage holes, you might want to try running a large amount of water through the soil in hopes of leaching some of the extra chemicals out of it. Plants can be pretty tough, so the rose may be able to bounce back.
I have a Zephirine Drouhin rose, and don't treat mine with anything. It's only marginally hardy here, so it doesn't always bloom, but its foliage usually is pretty healthy--except for rose slugs. In my view, when it comes to black spot, the cure often is worse than the disease!
We lived in Texas for 3 years, and people have lovely roses out there. If it were me, vaneperez, I would cut my losses on that particular rose. There must be roses which take advantage of the TX weather! I bet a little research would find a rose that loves the warm weather and sunshine you have.
