Hello,
Overnight, my home along with adjacent homes has been infested with this bug I can't seem to identify. They are all over the back yard, along the exterior walls and have made their way into the home.
They are either dark or light brownish/yelllowish in color with a darker shade down the middle. 6 legs with 2 antennas. Hard body shell. They do not fly but when crush, it seems as if there are wings.
Any help on identifying them and/or eradicating them is much appreciated. Thank you.
House infested with these beetle like bugs - please help
Do live in/near an agricultural area? These are weevils, beetles in the family Curculionidae, and the one on the right looks very much like an alfalfa weevil - see http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/r1300511.html These are not household pests; they will not harm anything in/on your home. Simply vacuum up any that get inside, and dispose of them in the trash.
Thank you Flapdoodle. I do not live in/near an agricultural area but do have a field behind my house. It does look like an alfalfa weevil but don't have alfalfa growing around here. They all seem to congregate in my rear yard where there's grass, rose bushes and weeds. They get into the house through cracks. I've been vacuuming and killing them for days but can't keep up. I need to find the source of what they are attracted to and get rid of them from there. I'm about to call pest control but really prefer not to use chemicals. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
I suggest that you take some of them to the Alameda County office of California's Cooperative Extension Service for control/abatement advice, see http://cealameda.ucanr.edu/ for contact information. Extension service offices usually are a good resource to utilize when dealing with most home/yard/garden pest problems.
Looking at the pictures and the information you provided, they seems like bed bugs. Bed bugs are about 1/4 of an inch in length. They are oval in shape, but are flattened from top to bottom. Their color ranges from nearly white or a light tan, to a deep brown or burnt orange type of color. Look for a black stains and smears on beds. Other than this, you should call upomn some exterminator in Queens to have an inspection.
