Huge spider! Can anyone identify?

Santa Maria, CA

I live in California, i have looked up so many spiders and can't find anything close! Its got a black body and a brown abdomen. It has a black stripe down the (top) abdomen and has 6 eyes and shiny greenish fangs. It makes a web over itself almost like a cocoon at night. Web makes crunching sound.

The behavior you describe is typical for some jumping spiders (family Salticidae), and several species have the bases of their fangs greenish (see https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3364/3609987337_c71f768c11_z.jpg for an example). However, it is very unusual for these spiders to have a body length of much more than half an inch...

Thanks for your feedback, yes it's definitely the same color fangs. But they look completely different. Also my spider is about an inch long atleast.

Try to get some better pictures then, preferably ones that show a complete dorsal view as well as the spider's 'face.'

It could be a type of hobo spider, if so I would definitely set traps out around your home. I've found these to work really well: http://www.saferbrand.com/store/indoor-insect/m293

I also found this great spider identification guide: http://bit.ly/1DcD0it

1. Hobo spiders are not known to occur in California.
2. The spider identification guide cited above has at least two glaring errors: the "Wandering Spider" is an orb weaver in the genus Argiope, and the "Ground Spider" appears to be a fishing/nursery web spider (family Pisauridae); it most certainly is not a true ground spider (family Gnaphosidae).
