I live in the great white north (AKA Canada). Found this little bugger with my girlfriend while we were playing mini-golf, and I'm super curious about what kind it is in specific.
Don't worry, we let the little guy go with all of his legs intact.

This is an immature (nymph) of a grasshopper; likely a Carolina locust - see http://www.pbase.com/naomismith/image/102002492 for an image. This species is widely distributed in North America. including the GWN - they are quite common on our farm in North Dakota, about 75 miles south of the Canadian border...
