Plants like this take abuse but overwatering is one form of abuse that is deadly. It may have a rot that has gone up through the tissue and there may not be anything to save now. Good luck feeling the stem to see where it is soft, on this guy! New soil and fertilizer will not cure rot.

Wait for a more expert opinion but I think I'm giving a reasonable educated guess. I have killed several 'succulent' type plants.

I am guessing the plant is gone. What kind of light and water does it get? When succulents are going through a crisis like this, the first thing to look for (like Sally suggests) is rot.

A crown of thorns without viable leaves should be treated carefully and not spoiled with extra water and fertilizer... without the leaves it's not able to do proper photosynthesis and make use of these things. Unfortunately leafless plants are also not the best candidates to take cuttings from, but you can certainly try if you want. Just make sure the stem is healthy and rot-free where you make the cut.

Winter is not an easy time for these plants indoors. The low light makes them vulnerable. This may be a contributing factor to your plant's decline.
