How to choose drip tape and where to get

Delaplane, VA

Hi all,

I want to make the investment in drip tape for my very large vegetable garden. I was looking at the rain flo website but apparently there are many different kinds available and I don't know which to choose. I also do not know the best place to purchase, so any advice is very welcome.

Thank you

Suggest some time spent reading the posts over on the Irrigation forum here for lots of info.

I use Dripworks http://www.dripworks.com/ for all my irrigation needs and they have good prices for various sizes of drip tape and fittings. Spacing of the holes for your plants is a primary issue to consider and 6-8" is pretty standard. If your plant spacing is very inconsistent - often the case if you rotate crops - then suggest you consider using drip hose and fittings that can be moved/adjusted rather than drip tape with its fixed holes.

There are many other companies out there so be sure to shop around for pricing. And keep in mind that for small systems, even the local big box stores like Lowes and such carry them.

In the old days.. we dug down, put in ditches along the rows of plants, and watered them. Pulled weeds, and covered the plant roots with mulch.. Hay, straw.. Will keep the water in.

If you are looking for drip tape again this year, I'd recommend TORO Aqua Traxx, it's very durable and works above or below ground. You can find it at WaterTec Drip: www.watertecdrip.com
