Do you what is this?

montreal, Canada

Hello,
Does anyone have an idea of the name of this insect? It was found in the state of NY. We are trying to figure out if it is a good bug or a pest.
Any lead that can help us direct our own research would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Its a brown marmorated stink bug, a pest from Asia.

Has 8 instars where it looks different than that as it grows. Crushing them draws more to the scene, and they destroy my maters, peppers, etc....dont they also call them shield bugs?

Minot, ND

Stink bugs are in the family Pentatomidae; true shield bugs belong to different families - Scutellaridae (some tropical species also are called jewel bugs), and Acanthosomatidae...

Here's how you can tell the difference between the brown stink bug (native to North America) and the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB): http://www.stopbmsb.org/stink-bug-basics/look-alike-insects/
