In the past week I've seen a few of these beetle like insects crawling on the floor at home, which are about 5mm long. I live in Hong Kong, on top of a flower shop, so I'm wondering if this is a house pest, or if these are just coming through the window from the flowers and plants downstairs. Thanks for your help in identifying this, and any advice on how to get rid of them.
Beetle on floor
This appears to be a darkling beetle (family Tenebrionidae), but it does not look like any of the cosmopolitan pest species, such as flour beetles and mealworms.
Thanks for your reply. Any guess as to what may be attracting them into my place, or is it likely that they just randomly come from the outside? Is there a specific pest control strategy for these?
These likely are accidental visitors; no control should be necessary.
Thank you, I'm relieved!
That last post by FrankDLittle should be ignored, as it appears to be spam. (1) Why would anyone in Oregon use a NY pest control company? (2) An occasional nuisance pest occurrence does not warrant a professional control service.
