I have a wonderful Peace Lily. I will be away for 3 weeks. How can I keep it watered? It is 12 yrs old.
Help!
How to care for peace lily
If it's in a plastic container, you can:
Find a pie plate or shallow glass casserole dish that is slightly larger than the pot's bottom. Set the pot in the dish and mark how high the dish comes on the side of the pot. Head a bolt on the stove and melt 4 holes in the side of the pot just above the line and at 90* intervals (quarter points). Push a length of shoelace or other absorbent chord into each hole with a flat screwdriver. I use strips of rayon fabric from rayon mop heads or strips cut from a man-made chamois.
Set the casserole dish or pie plate in a tub, then set the plant in the dish. Fill the tub with water so it comes just to the top of the dish w/o the water pouring into the dish - the bottom of the plant pot should be dry. The wicks should be long enough so they will reach the bottom of the tub. Water will rise up the wicks and be absorbed by the soil for as long as there is water in the tub.
