Wow! I bookmarked this one, will go back later to look at the other wonders.
p.s. Give yourself 5-10 minutes to look at all the photos, and make sure to click on Paul Robson"s face about halfway down, he will sing about trees while you look.

Absolutely gorgeous and inspiring! Thanks for the link!

You're welcome!

I have a question about that tree with the embedded bike, though. Shouldn't the bike have remained at the bottom of the tree as it grew?

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

If the bike started out on the ground, then yes.

If the bike was placed in a crotch of two stems - as it appears it could have been - then it would remain at that level.

I'm more suspicious of the paint; the plastic on the handle bars; and the rubber tire still evident. Which of those elements was not even invented in 1914, and how much if any of those materials would weather that well for 100+ years?

great photos... amazing!

I'm with you, VV: I'm thinking it might have been photo shopped. The tire and handlebar grasps look fairly new, and some of the metal looks as if it's in pretty good condition. I do see something that could be part of the bike in the tree crotch, though.

I found another photo of the bike taken from a different angle: https://search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&type=B111US636D20131104&p=bike+photo+Todd+Bates+on+Flickr

...and an article saying it was chained there in 1954, a more believable date: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bi-DLACcLkk/TiTvNeagdCI/AAAAAAAAMwo/0UE2EAIxX6E/s1600/016.jpg

You're welcome! When I saw it in the Mid-Atlantic Forum, I thought it would be a good fit for this forum as well.
