For some reason---besides all the usual Phal. Orchids--we have been getting
in a slew of"Vanda" orchids.
They all just hang there--bare-rooted in the GH among the houseplants.
They are $25....or maybe $29? Not sure.
People are buying them. ..probably have NO clue how to grow them.
Neither do I.

Interesting Gita, We have one hanging bareroot in the GH but I don't know if I could keep it growing in the house.

I would love to have a bathroom with good light, then I might be tempted by a Vanda, otherwise, doubt they will last. well, for the summer in our region, hanging under a tree, maybe...
I saw a video about soaking the orchids weekly. Mine seem to like it. (Phal and Oncidiums) I guess it really wets the bark nicely. Maybe you can do it with a Vanda too.

I'm still watching this stupid Dendrobium that I have never seen bloom, (because (( obviously, if you know me)) I bought on clearance. ) will this be the summer it grows enough and keeps enough leaves to bloom?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally--From the dungeons of my brain--I remember that the Dendrobium orchids
have to grow a new stem which will bloom. Not sure if this is true?????
Wonder if that means that the bloomed out stem gets cut back????

Just musing here....G.

I think you are right. It has grown a new better stem most years, but loses the leaves over winter. The past stem wasn't as big but kept its leaves.
I'm just as bad as many people in being unduly committed to saving a failing plant!

Holly and Ric... nice haul from your trip to Florida!

While most of you start getting busy with outdoor gardening this time of year, mine continues to stay inside for the most part. We are still apt dwellers and we do have a nice balcony... but I have been growing out seedlings from my own hybrid crosses of Streptocarpus. Many are blooming now and I have a couple of "keepers"!

The two together are sister seedlings from the same cross, and actually, the pink and yellow one is also from the same cross as well!

They had some very nice Streps at the EFG Orchids and I thought of you.

My AV are looking rather nice right now many of them are blooming.

gorgeous Karen! I love that pink/yellow. I was just amazed at how many flowers I got, for so many weeks, from one Bristol Goose Egg strep the past few months.

Yes... if they are happy, they can bloom almost year round!
