I found this white fluffy cocoon on the back of a papaya leaf, so I put it in a jar w/ plastic wrap on top -poked a few tiny holes ( thank God they weren't any larger! ) and left it for a day or 2 and found hundreds of these flying bugs in it! I killed them cause I thought they were bad news, but maybe not? I live in the Virgin islands. I'd like to know if I should be keeping an eye out for these.

Unfortunately, you killed the good guys - parasitic wasps emerging from the body of their host, likely the pupa of a caterpillar that had been feeding on your papaya.
Thank you for letting me know, I was afraid of that. :( I will now leave them out there. I have seen the white fuzzy things before so hopefully will see them again.
