Joe Pye weed seed

Just checking to make sure I know where the seed is on the joe pye weed plant. I have waited until the flower heads have dried somewhat and just plucked them off- hoping that the seed is in the flower head. Am I right?? Thanks.

Lorie look in the database http://davesgarden.com/plants/go/11.html There's some pictures. The seed has the fluffy parachute attached to it so they'll float away in the wind. I think there's usually a good percentage of duds. At least with my plant there are. The dark ones are the viable seeds.

Armed with above information, I have attempted to separate the viable seeds from the rest. I had collected and saved only one huge flower head and now I don't know how many hours I need to finish this job. Is there an easy way to do this? I think my allergies are acting up as I do it too.

Well that explains it then! I guess the ones I recieved in a trade were all duds! b/c I planted them and still nothing! so I am still with out Joe Pye weed! O well there's always next year!!
