I found this spider at the park (in Bundoora, Victoria, Australia) and had a look at it under a microscope. I was thinking it might be Araneus miniatus but am unsure as spiders are not my area of expertise. Thank you for your help.
What kind of spider is this?
I'm pretty sure that it is not Araneus miniatus, but I cannot offer a good alternative at this time. I have a nagging feeling that I have seen similar images before, but that's about it...
Here's a slight possibility - Eriophora circulissparsus (sometimes also placed in the genus Araneus), a species having a wide variety of color patterns -

It now appears that the one I came across a couple of days ago more probably is an Araneus; found a reference to the "Araneus psittacinus group" that includes A. circulissparsus. See https://www.flickr.com/photos/51901606@N07/5299450185/in/pool-australianspiders
