I have a wintersweet for about 6-7 years and it has never bloomed. I live in zone 7A and it is in full/part sun. What should I do to help it bloom?
Wintersweet
I have one -wintersweet- Chimonanthes praecox- and it's not quite six years old, grown from seed. It has several branches now and overall 3-5 feet tell. Last year I only had a dozen buds. It is in partial shade on acid sandy loam with no special treatment. zone 7 B, from parent shrub bloomed very well in 7A. Parent bloomed in full sun, more of a clay soil.
Maybe yours just isn't quite there yet. Leaves are still on mine but they'll fall, I don't think I can see the flower buds yet, but should, in January. If still no buds then, there, fertilize in spring.
