CLOSED: Geometer?

(Zone 5a)

I wish I had a better picture, but this was it. I figured it is a Geometer based on how it stiffened on the Ironweed. I tried searching for bugs that use the Ironweed as a host, but couldn't find a match. Any ideas who this might be?

Oops. I forgot to mention this was taken 28 August in our yard Central Iowa. Just in case it helps in identifying.

I am finally going through the bugs I could not identify this summer so I can update the list I keep of native bugs on our property.

It certainly appears to be a geometrid, but the image quality is insufficient (for me, anyway) for a more specific identification...

Other than a sharper picture, what type of photos would better help others identify caterpillars? Faces?

Thank you for your reply. :)

Caterpillars can be more readily identified if sharply focused images depict both a dorsal (top) and lateral (side) aspect. A head capsule ('face') view also can be helpful, especially in instances where two or more different species have very similar body patterns.

Thank you for the info. :) No more bugs for awhile, unless I find some pictures not yet IDed. It's too cold for humans, so cannot imagine any active insects out there. Brr...
