********************************************************
RULZ:

In the interest of FAIRNESS to participants
and to maintain the INTEGRITY of the Round Robin tradition
we each agree to:

(1) Treat the Robin as an individual swap taking the same time and care with our contributions to the Robin as we would with an individual trade;
(2) Take what you want, give what you can, generous in contribution and modest in appropriation - particularly if the amount of seed in the Robin is scant;
(3) Contribute only seed of known origin (commercial seed, harvested from our own garden, etc.) not older than 2012;
(4) Package our seed contributions to the Robin in clear plastic zip lock bags and/or glassine envelopes so that contents are visible and easily accessible by other participants in the Robin;
(5) Properly label our seed contributions to the Robin with our DG Name, common and botanical name of species contributed, and date of origin (PREFERABLY ON PAPER LABEL INSIDE BAG/ENVELOPE);
(6) Respond within 24 hours to communications from other participants and HOST of the Robin by dmail, telephone, or other means deemed acceptable by the HOST;
(7) Post on the main thread the arrival and departure date(s) of the Robin into and out of each participant's possession;
(8) Maintain possession of the Robin not longer than 4 days including holidays and weekends;
(9) Submit USPS tracking/confirmation information by dmail to the HOST only, not by public thread;
(11) Be a good sport!!!

AND it goes without saying that each of us must be a paid, subscribing member to DG through the duration of the Robin. Thank you.

*******************************************************

We are a friendly bunch dedicated to seed swapping and hoarding.

Many of us have participated in this time honored tradition hosted in the past by Susie (deejay9). Some of us have not participated in the Robin before. Please feel free to ask any questions of the HOST or participants on this public thread or by dmail.

Thanks for playing and for unabashedly pointing out any flaws or errors inherent in the HOST's logic or lack thereof.

As always, thanks for accepting me as your host, scabs and all, and

Thanks for playing. :)

~Amanda

Omg I received the robin today. Amazing - it is packed near to bursting. What fun. Will update when I send to the next gardener. Thank you so much for letting me play!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Hello evr1 well I still have not got my list ready so sorry I 'm working on my Xmas box to get sent out this week & Then I hope to be able to list some that I Have that some of you might like & list the seeds I'm looking for .

Amanda you are doing a great Job Ty & I hope you will have More time with your players This season since your school days are over right ???? :)

Memays: Hope you enjoy the robin & Find many to Brighten your Gardens :)

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Glad the bird has landed - a note - I did ship in a flat rate medium box only for "convenience" but shipping in an unmarked box would have saved a couple of dollars. Again - if you have access to a scale and the time and energy to devote to saving a couple of dollars for yourself, you may want to investigate the difference yourself. :)

Susie - thanks for checking in. Yes, it's true! My school daze are over, so I won't be consumed with that this time around. I've got two organizations I'm working with part-time and both involve driving a distance, otherwise trying to clear my desk and find full time work like so many others!

The cold has come to stay, I'm afraid, and what little was still blooming has got the shivers to be sure. Hope everyone stays warm and dry! I'm hearing from all sources that this winter will be cold and wet.

Some of my stuff is in homemade paper envelopes. Where can I get small ziplock bags to use as seed packages... suggestions would be great.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Wal-mart or K-mart- or craft stores have them in the craft depts or by the beads department :)

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

I have also included ~200 small ziplock craft baggies in the Robin.

Individual handmade seed packets can be okay, Jen did that too and sent a mess of seed! Just make sure the identifying information is on the outside. We'll deal with it if you've already packaged up your seed. Hate to make this seem like work if you've already done the bulk of it.

The other consideration is the weight of paper/cardstock vs. clear plastic or glassine. Just being practical, that's all.

Feel free to post any and all questions! We'll take 'em as they come.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I Have lots of wood you can Burn :)))

Natick, MA

Yes DJ, but kind of problematic getting it from MI to AL! :-)

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

not if you know anyone with a Big rig :)

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

o mi goodness, yes we've had quite the "unseasonable" cold snap this past week, but today has been just gorgeous!

Let us hear when you receive the bird Crystal. Maybe you'll find some new greens for next year in that box.

xo
A.

p.s. Valal - crikey - I used to live in Boston - hope you don't have too much winter this year!

(Crystal) Waverly, AL

Pkg arrived today. Still looking through it.

Natick, MA

Hi Amanda.....Farmers Almanac is predicting a VERY cold, snowy winter. I am hoping they are wrong, but hunkering down with visions of winter sowing in my head :-)

I want to say that I did not join the robin this year (new to DG) because I got all excited this summer when I read about winter sowing and bought a lot of seeds so I decided I'd pass this year. But all you ladies so inspire me and I have been SO enjoying reading your forum/s, chats and learning so much from everyone here at DG. It is so heartwarming to find such wonderful people to chat about my gardening obsession, and some very generous DG-ers have helped me get my gardening project off to a great start this year. I am just hoping all my plants fare well (esplly starter plants I purchased and planted in fall)

Look forward to reading more and join in more as I have more to share:-)
Have a great day everyone!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

ok I have my have & want list up but willing to trade for any thing odd as for flowers, or vine, I have my Veggie garden
all Planned so don't need veggie. but hope you will take a look :) ty all .

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

valal - I haven't heard yet of massive snow descending on the northeast, but Buffalo ain't far away!

I didn't have a garden when I lived there, didn't have the space, and I have been so spoiled by the long growing season here in NC. Crazy, I was thinking about moving to somewhere COLD for new job, but I have to keep myself in line. I think anyone here would agree to trade with you or share if you saw something on one of our lists that you can't live without or would like to try. We are the original seed hoarders and going thru this package of seed is like opening a birthday gift. :)

Glad you're here and hope you stay with us.

Crystal - there were a lot of odd bags in there - if you feel the need to sort them somehow to make some sense of them feel free. I think most of us put a zip lock with our name on it and then put our seed packets inside. I left many of those so there really are too many zip locks in there. If/when it becomes a nuisance to squish them all into our mailing box, we can try to pare down to the basics.

For now, I'm going to put on another layer and get ready for night time temps. Brrr.

Natick, MA

Thanks Amanda, for your kind words. I was born and raised in Mass. So deal with the snow if I must but totally understand why someone might want to live in warmer climate! We had a bunch of rain last Mon. And if it were snow, we'd have about 3 feet! Scary thought!

I'll be around for a good long while..so enjoying the info and friendly forums!
Have a great Sunday everyone!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

It's been a good, busy day. I'm thankful the rain held off for as long as it did! Wonder if we'll get a soaking. I guess I'll find out. Like you - thankful this week our temps are warmer.

Traffic is a mess with shoppers already. I think I am getting ready to hibernate.

Have a great week!

Tell us what you've found in the box, Crystal. :)

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

Snowing for the second time today, got 3 1/2" overnight and now more.....brrrr. Hater to say but I still have seeds to collect. 'pose to get back into the 50's for the rest of the week tho so should be able to do some collecting yet...

Those who are familiar with the things I've been growing....any requests? Will try to make sure I get some! Kathy

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Omigoodness Kathy - "anyone familiar" with the things you have been growing would be mind boggled. :)

Will have to check your trade lists. I am not sure I'll be in this house in the spring /summer but decided to forego a neighborhood plant rescue in the fall because it was just such a downer. I am going to think positive happy thoughts all winter long.

It's warmed up here considerably too - positively September-ish! :)

Have a great day.

A.

(Crystal) Waverly, AL

I sent the box off again today. There is an incredible amount of seed in that box. There was barely any room to add any more. I mashed and stuffed and got most of mine in. It's hard to picture all those seed being claimed. Is something going to be done with the left overs-like send to a garden or something?

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

We are going to send the left overs to Robin who is in charge of the New Bee seed distribution. :)

A.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

That sounds like a wonderful idea. After all We all had to start somewhere ;)

(Tracy) Lk Pan, FL(Zone 9a)

The robin has landed! This ole girl is fat!! ;) Give me a few days to go through all of this and then it's on to Mittsy! Will have her back in the air on Monday. Everybody have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I will.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Happy Thanksgiving! A little early, but I realize some of you will be otherwise occupied on the day of Thanksgiving as is to be expected. Have a wonderful holiday!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Super - glad the bird is taking a rest on thanksgiving. :)

Agree with Nanny - Have a happy, safe Thanksgiving.

xo
A.

Ellendale, DE(Zone 7a)

If the box is too full by the time it reaches me, I'm thinking of getting a bigger box ... Happy Thanksgiving to all.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

when i 1st started the robin I would use a reg LG Priority NOT Flat rate & it would cost between $10-$12. pending how far it was going.
Happy Turkey day :)))

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

When I sent it it was packed to the brim in a medium flat rate. I didn't have time to mess around (or a scale at home to weigh it!!!) so that's the route I went.

as we discussed earlier, if you have the time and inclination - please do help the bird along on a priority basis (so we can track her) in whichever way suits you and your pocketbook best.

Hope everyone enjoyed a happy Thanksgiving. Friday is a work day for me so I'm back at my desk!!!

xox

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I expect it will arrive either Wednesday or Thursday if sent Priority. I hope I can fit in everything I have ready to go. I'll try to get a larger box if I get out today.

(Tracy) Lk Pan, FL(Zone 9a)

Mittsy, the bird is in the air. I'll dmail you the tracking #. I did some organizing and was able to make a little bit of room, not much though. There's a lot of seed in there!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Makes me think of Santa on his sleigh. :D

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

lol Amanda!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I believe I'm second in line after this!
Can't wait!

Sue G

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Phew!

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday it was 73 degrees. Today it's been "Meh" cold and wet/damp all day. I liked yesterday better. :D

I think I've mentioned about not being sure if I'll be in this house during the next growing season, so I'm a little (HA!) nervous about hoarding more seeds. O but it's such a delicious temptation.

Susie - I haven't forgotten the nasturtiums. Should get at those boxes this weekend.

Hope everybody is recovering well from Thanksgiving. I ate too much pie!!!

Good night.

A.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Been watching the thread but wonky internet has me unable to post much. Had a great thanksgiving and so glad to hear everyone else did too! Mittsy if you don't upsize the box, no worries, I have boxes of all sizes -- sure to have one the next size up :)

Getting real antsy over here, feel like a kid looking at a tree full of Christmas presents and can't open any yet! Lol
