What a perfect shelter for critters and birds; no wonder the rabbit likes it.
Feeding feathered and furry friends
what gorgoeus gold color!
Thanks, I thought so too. I hope it grows into a really nice tree. Not to sound like a yuppy but a neighbor a couple houses away has one too but there's isn't nearly as nice as ours. It's fuller but they hedge trim it and it makes it look terrible. My guess is it might be about 3 years older than mine. There's had 0 fall color this year while ours was on fire. But like I said...not to be a snob or anything....
Hedge trim a tree?! How stupid.
Yeah well that's what I was thinking. They did it in '14 and '13. It was really nice before they did that though. They also have a (super lame IMO) boxwood shaped like Whinnie the Pooh. They bought it that way and just maintain the shape now.
These are the same people though that I saw Rototilling the immediate soil around the base of a small tree.
They lost the best plant in their whole yard due to last winter. They had a 12'X12' Tiger Eye Sumac and it was gorgeous. It's a darned shame to have lost such a nice shrub.
I'm not in love with Winnie the Pooh, and this just adds to it!
You just hate that treatment of special plants. And I think it's a shame that some people have half acre lots and spend absolute zero time doing anything but cutting grass.
End of negativity for today. It just means WE have to step up our efforts!
haha Needs a haircut but I think I like it better than WTP
I dislike all topiaries. I think they're monstrosities that need to revert back to their typical growth. Plants were made to look like plants, not WTH or chickens....
Oh no, tell us how you REALLY feel LOL. So that rooster is a no then for my next gardening project. Cracking myself up here, and now I'm having a coughing fit - all your fault...
LOL...sorry about that!! I've been kind of vocal lately, I don't know what's gotten in to me.
It's the gloomy weather!
You're probably right. It's been cloudy nearly every single day since the beginning of December.
LOL Sequoia, Vocal is just fine. I love the chicken but then I do like Topiaries. Probably wouldn't like the neighbors WTP though.
Vocal IS just fine. Hehehe
It really has been a gloomy time. Must be what the PNW is like. UGH.
Kind of think the rooster is cute. Not fond of WTP either.
I don't like topiaries either, including meatballs.
Meatballs? You're not talking about those two twits on Jerseyshore are you?....LOL
Thanks you guys for accepting my being vocal lately :) You guys are the best.
Meatballs AREN'T topiary. They're just green meatballs.
Dude, give yourself another 30 years and you may find a surprising new tolerance of whimsy. Or not.
Stay vocal!
Now I'm intrigued about our shared intolerance of WTP...
I enjoy when you voice your opinions. Besides, they are never the kind that are the type that could hurt feelings. Not a wishy washy thought in that head LOL.
Green meatballs, no doubt made from yew or boxwood? They're good for Xmas lights though ;-)
I'm a very opinionated person and it used to be to a fault but I've been better at keeping a lid on it the last few years. Probably something to do with coming to Jesus.
Jeff--
I am opinionated too---seems I have been all my life.
The bunch here on DG are used to it...They either ignore it, or validate it.
Sally, my buddy, is the most level headed, non-opinionated person here.
I appreciate her support..
There's many things that can be said about people who are opinionated.
MY OPINION--on myself----
--Lack of self confidence
--Attempting to appear more informed than others
--A need to comment on everything. Always honest...
--Being a know-it-all....
--Actually knowing more than others--from life-long learning and experiences.
Not ashamed to say all that...I yam--what I yam.....

I might fall into a couple of those categories but I never really thought about it too much. I think some people are just more outspoken than others. If it's a topic I know nothing about, such as football, I'm pretty quiet.
I'm a Libra = balance, ya know...
What does Aquarius supposed to mean?
I don't know it's so easily quantified.
Oh, here you are. You look skinnier than I guessed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquarius_%28astrology%29
The water-bearer part of Aquarius may be associated with caring for others, or caring for the greater good. or that's what two sites both mentioned. I believe all the nice things Wikipedia said about you and none of the not nice.
Libra is the scales, or person holding scales, sorta like scales of justice? hence the balance.
I am a Pisces.....
anyone feel like researching the character of the "fish people"?
NO--we are NOT, necessarily water lovers....
More like caring-loving..compassionate...etc....That would fit me....

JEFF--Aquarius traits (My daughter is an aquarius)...
http://www.ifate.com/astrology_signs_aquarius.html
There are too many links to each. None of them carved in stone...
G.
Some of those Aquarian things describe me. I don't usually get too much into the astrology thing. It's interesting to read for fun though.
How did we get on meatballs and astrological signs again?!?
Anyway, back to those meatballs. I'm going to take a photo of the roughly 30 boxwood meatballs in front of a house near me. I drive by it all the time and wonder why they don't just let the things grow together into hedges or a massive mass. I have no problem with a few green meatballs; it's just that the thought of all the human labor wasted in maintaining 30+ shrubs is mind-boggling.
I think all the astrology stuff is vague enough that everyone finds the things they like to think of themselves, throws out the rest, and then says Well, it's pretty accurate! Haha, just for kicks.
We have someone who's been calling the library daily, sometimes five times in a day, asks if Aquarius is a water sign or an air sign. He'll hang on and on, questioning what you say. I suspect he spends way too much time with a certain 'herbal remedy"
I used to have a greenmeatball neighbor, those were the old fashioned juniper 'shrubs' common to older developments? Muddy, I thought the same thing...and eventually the they sold, and new homeowner agreed with me and took them down. PHEW!
Lol....yeah that's for certain. There is an Asian American person who lives nearby me and he has a bunch of green meatballs along with some Asianesque statues and such. I wonder if it's a zen garden of some sort.
But, about birds...yesterday I came home , parked in the driveway next to the long forsythia hedge where a bunch of house finches were making a loud racket. when I got out and walked around the van they suddenly got totally silent. They must have been talking about me! made me grin.
Lol...I'm sure they were like...sshhhh watch what you say, here come that oddball human named Sally!
WOW, Look at all of them. LOL
Yeah--kind of an "Estate look"....very formal.
It looks like there are more than 50 (they need one more to replace a missing one in the front, though). I don't think it looks bad, just really boring, and I don't understand why people would spend time pruning 50+ shrubs into little balls or, more likely, pay someone to do it.
LOL, meatballs!
Really out of scale with the rest of the house.
It looks like an army of meatballs!!! You're right though, a lot of wasted time and effort on upkeep.
Could be so much more interesting.
But since they clearly sculpted the area to build the house, why did they put the slope there? I would have put that to the left. I'm not a good designer but it seems all unbalanced and confusing.
They should have used some of those big $$ and hired a member of American Society of Landscape Architects
There are dozens of birds in all the big trees around, and they are ALL singing in the warm air today. Sounds insane in a nice way.
