I just bought diatomaceous earth to kill the ants on my cucumber plant- some sites say keep it dry others say you can spray it on. Will it kill white fly? They also say you should cover the plant with a sheet so bees don't get killed, but won't that kill the plant?
thoughts on diatomaceous earth as pest control?
We throw blankets on our plants in the winter time to protect from freezes, but remove as weather rewarms. It isnt just bees the diatomaceous earth can harm- it is destructive to pets as well. There are beneficial nematodes I believe in, as they only kill the bugs with a life cycle at some stage in ground. Kills ants, wont bother bees nor earthworms. Nor people if used on food items. It is just as slow as diatomaceous earth as it takes time for each to work on the bugs, but it is far more specific in its targets.
