This one had a fence around it at the entrance to a MA state park. maybe it's important. Is it perhaps a type of Hawthorne?
State Park Tree
Too tired to go looking up what the choices may be for MA, but definitely a Hawthorn (Crataegus sp.).
But definitely NOT Nathaniel Hawthorne . . . . so no 'e' at the end ;-)

I'll try to figure it out a bit tonight. Thanks guys!
Finally got around to trying to figure this one out:
Is this perhaps a Washington Hawthorn? I'm taking my best guess...
I think you are probably right. A shot of the fruit would likely confirm that ID.
