I'm in zone 7a (Cape Cod MA)
Can I plant some seeds now in the garden and will they come up in the Spring?
Any special directions to doing this procedure?
SEEDS IN FALL
Some kinds will, some kinds won't. It depends on the planting directions for that particular species. Some specie's seeds MUST be planted in the fall and over-winter, but other specie's seeds will die so they're sown in the spring.
Ask the vendor (where you got the seeds). . or go to an online seed vendor and follow the planting directions.
Also---
You can just follow Mother Nature. Plants that naturally drop seeds that overwinter
and come up in the spring (biennials) can be sowed in beds in the fall.
You can also start these in late winter bu the Winter Sowing method.
Ex: Black Eyed Susans--Petunias--Forget-me-nots--Amaranth--Melampodiums--
4-Oclocks--Morning Glories--Cardinall Climber--Spider Plants (Cleomes)--etc...
Mostly, these kind of plants need the "striation" period --at least 6 weeks in cold--
to germinate.
Many Articles have been written on DG to do with Winter Sowing--especially
by "Critterologist" (Jill). Click on her name and go down the list of the Articles
she has written. There are LOADS on this topic.
