I am pretty new to flower gardening. I have a handful of southern bush honeysuckles in a large bed under some trees. They are NOT doing well, spindly, leaves only on the very tips (but they are green), a number of dead canes. Call it a loss? Prune back to the ground for the winter? What? Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!
help with southern bush honeysuckle
Honeysuckles - lonicera- are considered invasives, are also grateful in that pruning doesn't bother them. They could have decided they didnt like that area and will be traveling underground to find a new home. Some of them do slow down growth in the fall, but the inside bare branches wont regrow leaves usually, the growth is more apt to be on new wood. I would trim.
