President Hibiscus

Leander, TX(Zone 8a)

I have recently moved to Leander,Texas I just purchased a president hibiscus, my question is this will this plant come back next year ? I had one in Tennessee an it came back every year from the roots. It was just beautiful. I want to grow this in Texas too will it do for the winter or is there another kind I need to get?

KK....

To me--that looks like a tropical Hibiscus. Not sure--but I think it is...

If you just got it, and if it was the Hardy hibiscus--it would long be done blooming.
Also--most Hardy Hibiscus have the dinner plate type of blooms.
There are exceptions--i am sure. And--I do not know what lives and dies in TX.

I live in Maryland....My Hardy Hibiscus are all yellowing sticks by now.

KK I am in Houston and very fond of hibiscus in general. Looks like the plant is under a ledge? I would recommend you protect it very well - you are liable loose it if the winter is harsh. If it a new plant I would be comfy if only in a pot. Keep it moist and well covered with mulch and cloth. I have lost quite a few of them.
Once they have survived in one place - you are better off. Happy fall planting.
