Finding lots of these spiders in my house...

Monkton, MD

Hi, I am finding at least one or two of theses spiders on a daily basis in our house. I first noticed them in summer and they have gotten worse during the Fall. I was bitten by one in July and had a horrible bite (see pic) that needed medical attention- steroids, antibiotics. My husband thinks they are common garden or wood spiders and that I happen to have slight allergy to them. He said the chances of me being bitten again are low. Could these be brown recuse spiders or some other type that is harmful? I have saved a coupe I have sprayed and am going to take them in to the pest control office this week. I am pregnant and I am a bit afraid that the situation could get out of control. We live in the Baltimore, Maryland countryside area. Thank you!

These appear to be wolf spiders; their bites are not dangerous to humans. The only truly dangerous spider in Maryland is the black widow spider; recluse spiders are not native there - see http://insects.about.com/od/spiders/tp/brown-recluse-lies.htm for a distribution map.

Thank you!
