Hi all,
I am usually pretty good at IDying insects through search, but I have trouble with this one.
Found in Ottawa area (Canada)
Real size of spider is about 1 to 1.5 inch total ( from tip to tip of legs )
Thanks.

This appears to be a rather emaciated orb weaver (family Araneidae) with some mites hitchhiking on it. Because of its condition, I am hesitant to attempt a specific i.d., but here's one possibility - http://www.indiana.edu/~preserve/arthropods/araneae/graphics/Gea_heptagon2.jpg
Ok thanks Flapdoodle. I'll orient my search on orb weavers.
I am curious though, where do you see the mites?
I have looked/search more on Geas, but it's not conclusive as you said.
I am trying to find this yellowish hairy bar on its back for positive id (unless those are said mites, or some other temporary artefact)
I'd post another picture from another angle, but it has trouble uploading tonight.
I enlarged your image some more and zoomed in on what I had thought were mites on its cephalothorax, and I now believe that they more likely are small water droplets. My apologies for not being more careful in my initial examination...
