2014 Fall Round Robin Seed Swap (fka deejay9) - Interest

(Tracy) Lk Pan, FL(Zone 9a)

I have Canna indica and they're red.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

O Mittsy - if they're the same as the ones called 'Firebird' - they are lovely!

I purchased a packet of them last season and have been thrilled that they bloom all summer long. :)

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Here's a pic of mine. I call this one Canna patens, but I could be wrong. The flower are quite small, even smaller than Canna indica.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Please don't forget to add me to the list of players.. I've been hoarding seeds again all summer :))

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Boy, I must be tired. I thought Becky wanted us to pray for her because she was hoarding seeds. If I buy anymore seeds, well, you get the drift. Is there a Seed Hoarders Annonymous?

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

They are canna indica and bloom bright red small flowers.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Ha! Dee that's funny!

Please pray for Becky as she struggles with her seed hoarding addiction..

Hehehehe may be some truth there ;)

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Would you like to swap 10 or 15 of your red indica seeds for the same of my red/yellow patens?

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

You guys . . .. I didn't want to offend anyone. But Becky and Dee and I and well, perhaps we all suffer. :)

Thanks for the giggles.

I'll get you on the list Becky - administrative oversight.

Mittsy,

Are the Delphinium seeds you posted on your "Haves" list mixed colors, or are they individual, and if so, what colors are they?

Thanks,

Jen

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Be happy to collect some indica seeds for you, Dee. Could you post a picture of your yellow patens?
Jen, my Delphiniums are dark blue, all the same color.

Litchfield, NH(Zone 5b)

Mittsy,

Nice! Ok, if there's a pack in there when the robin gets to me I'll snag it.

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

That's the pic up top there, they are red/yellow.

For those of us who trade plants a lot, Pre-Ordering REGIONAL RATE box A & B is usually cheaper than flat rate, unless it's going all the way across the country. Box B is about the size of a Medium Flat Rate, and I ship it full of plants at 5-8 lbs from NH to NC to my sister and it costs between $7-10. But you do have to PRE-ORDER the boxes (they are free) from USPS online, and do the label online, too I believe. But I do that anyway, so it saves me money. Then I bypass the line at the PO and just drop it on the desk and let them know it's all set.

I do think we should each use the method that is most economical AND the most reliable in terms of timeliness and tracking.

However, if you are getting into flat rate regional shipping boxes, some folks won't have access to those and your use may inconvenience others to a greater degree. I tend to think that the flat rate boxes give us the most latitude without imposing too much worry about packaging and treks to the post office or ordering boxes online. Remember 3 - 4 days, particularly during the holiday months, is not a lot of time to possess the Robin.

If you have the ability to weigh at home and print postage online - that's great, but you really won't know if you can save pennies or dollars unless you can compare the cost of shipping in a non-flat rate cardboard box. Sometimes it saves, others, not. My postal scale disappeared recently when my long time BF moved out. :D

There are also simply "priority" boxes from the post that allow you to ship per weight and not on a flat rate basis that may cost less. But we are getting far afield from intent here.

Flat rate medium box is still ~$10.

The best way to save is if you are able to print postage online, which almost all of us should have the ability to do.

Let's not make it more complicated.

In years past Susie mandated the use of the medium size flat rate box.

Is that still capise with everyone here? Unless of course we have to step up to a large size, which would put us back into the debate about which way to ship is more cost effective.

Let's not inconvenience those who may not have regular easy access to the post for the sake of a few pennies.

Hello.

I will let you know ASAP if I cannot do it.

Thanks again,

(Crystal) Waverly, AL

Sorry for being so obtuse, but I may misunderstand how this works (still). I thought you added things to the box as it came to you. Add and remove. This must be wrong as people seem to be sending you a lot of seed. If I need to add some, I can do that or wait til it comes to me. Just lemme know.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

OK Amanda Sign me up! If it isn't too late. :)

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Crystal, you're not wrong. We're just adding before so it starts off with a good mixture! I just happened to have purchased a lot of commercial seed that I wanted to include.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Okay Nanny!

And yes Crystal - it's the same swap you know and love as Mittsy says. I just hate to send the first person an empty box. Heee.

No it won't be empty, there's a nice amount of seed. If you've participated before you may recognize some of the seed from the last fall/spring Robins. It's okay thought - there's always a tiny surprise in there for someone. :)

Amanda, I am not on the list up at the top. Thanks!

Ellendale, DE(Zone 7a)

Hey, Amanda. When the box comes to me, I will be sure to put in lots of good stuff since I ran out of time (working) to send something this week before the Robin goes out. Looking forward to my first Robin! Thanks so much.

DJ, you have done so much for so many, of course you can ask for wish list seeds.

Ellendale, DE(Zone 7a)

Do we post (as deejay9 says) in this very thread, or will there be another thread for that?

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

Sorry, I haven't gotten back in for a while. Still busy planting before the season ends. When does the box head out Amanda? Sorry, I've been sooo busy, still haven't collected too much of this year's crop of seed yet and snow and cold due this week. Is it too late to sign up? And sorry probably won't send seed before it leaves your location..but could add a bunch once it gets to me (or somewhere along the way.) Are you going to post the route? (Only have a few more days to finish up planting here, fortunately most has been tucked in snuggly for the winter...and a bunch that hasn't found it's new home in the garden will get planted in holding beds til spring.. Then will concentrate on seeds...I have many baggies of things that were collected from early season bloomers but need the mid-late season things for the box might also be able to include some from last season too. So let me know how things are progressing..and if I'm too late?! Thanx Kathy

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey All!

I had hoped to get the bird in the Air today, but it looks like it will be tomorrow - I had the CRAZIEST weekend on record yet. Ha hahahhaa.

A nice bunch of seed to start. Will post new thread tonight and get this party started.

Thank you DJ for popping in - will you do side trades or give and get the bird as well?

Jen - I received your seed pack on Saturday - thank you!

Kathy - not too late for YOU to sign up. :D

xoxo

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I think I will just so side I have lots to share but pending on the route you take it might be to late to add. so as soon as i can find time to get my list of haves around I will post them on the have & want .

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

What an amazing mix of seed to share! Putting the final touches on the bird before she flies. She will go south initially. Still completing the flight path, so bear with me ladies. As per usual - all manner of craziness occurring on this end, but it's all good!!!

Thanks for playing. :)

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

I realized (too late) that I said we'd ship on November 10 which was Sunday. Got there on the holiday to ship, and the post was closed. This sounds routine for me, and it is for some reason. I think I need a genie in a bottle to help me get out of the house more.

The Robin will head south first to Memays in Georgia. I will have a copy of the flight path enclosed in the Robin so everyone knows who to ship to next. I will keep your telephone numbers to myself unless we have to call you - please check in as often as you can for over the holidays it gets a little more chaotic.

She is packed to the brim, and I hope everyone finds a little something. I'm posting the flight thread this evening and will close this thread.

The Haves and Wants thread will remain open.

Hope all's well on your end. Please feel free to post with questions or comments.

A.
