Hi All,
I've been trying to figure out what this insect is, but nothing seems to match up. It kind of resembles an ant lion or a dobsonfly... any ideas? Spotted mid-day in South Lake Tahoe, roughly two months ago. It is probably an inch and a half long.
Thanks!
Neil

It looks like a female Dobsonfly. That would be an ovapositor on her backside.
It's a snakefly - http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/63302859
Ah, thank you so much! Mystery solved!!!
