Found this guy on the ground in our yard under a tree. We have old wood near there. I leave some logs on purpose for wood boring insects. We have found bess beetles in our wood several times. this is much bigger than an adult beetle I saw yesterday at just shy of 2.25 inches long. Maybe that was different and I have forgotten how big bess beetles are. Our old wood is mostly maple or pine.
