CLOSED: CLOSED: I've Never Seen a Spider Like This One, Have You?

Of course I should have counted his legs and his eyes, but didn't want to get anymore intimate than necessary. The spiny back-end is what stood out the most for me. He was web-building on a (Barberry) shrub I was digging up.

It's Micrathena gracilis, a harmless orb weaver known as the spined micrathena - http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/34465622

How pretty.

I once wound up with one of these in my mouth - while walking through the woods, I had my mouth open when I walked right into one of their webs - I must've spit that poor spider at least 15 feet!

Hey, spider! Go for a heck of a ride! Lol Oh, and ew.

15 feet, I'd certainly try for 15 feet too! I should have known he was harmless by how ominous he looked. Thanks so much Flapdoodle.

I readily agree with you Kwanjin, pretty and fascinating.
