Can I keep mums from season to season living in zone 7a?? Can they be winter- overed like geraniums?

Yes, they can be over-wintered. Don't cut the stems back to the ground even after a hard frost and do give them some water until the ground freezes. You can add some pine mulch around them as well, if you want.
