I live in zone 7A, close to ocean. I have been told that my gladiolas, daff's, tulips & dahlias can be left in the ground over the winter. I know the daff's survive because they come up year to year. My question, what can I successfully use for mulching these bulbs over the Winter that I have right here in my own backyard?
MULCHING
For the glads, you can use leaves or pine needles. The dahlias will rot and die if left in the ground in your zone over winter. The daffs and tulips should not need any extra attention.
Do you have seaweed up there? Seaweed is great for mulch or compost.
Barb,
We're down the cape too and have lots of leaves in our yard. You could use a covering of leaves (we have oaks). Regular Gladiolas (and Dahlias) will not survive our winter; only if you have the HARDY Glads. There's a difference.
