Help! beetle (?) on iris plants and in house
This is either a net-winged beetle (family Lycidae) - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/135754566 for an example, or a firefly (family Lampyridae) - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/99789192 for an example. In neither case do these pose any threat to your plants or anything in your house.
these have just increased in number since the post...I know you said no need to worry about the iris, but can'r help but think there is some reason they're all over them!
Well, whatever is attracting them, it's not for the purpose of feeding on the plants, as these beetles are predators...
Interesting, I have seen some aphids on the iris...possible they're attracted to them?
