Hello! I have moved to a new house and it's time to get the yard in order. I have three unsightly stumps in my front yard and I was hoping for some tips on how to remove them without digging them up. Someone told me I could dissolve them with buttermilk?
Thank you in advance!
tree stump removal
Buttermilk will attract moss spores but that will not dissolve a tree stump, at least not in a short amount of time.
Realistically, your choices are to have it ground out (tree services can give you a quote on the cost), dig it out (yourself or with a professional service), or let nature take its course. Some people burn out stumps, but that is not something that should be undertaken on a whim - depending on the age/dryness of the stump, you could wind up with your lawn on fire as it travels down/through the root structure.
Some people swear by drilling holes in a stump and filling them with fertilizer, which will help break down the stump faster...but the actual amount of time it will take (regardless of how much fertilizer or compost you pile on it is highly dependent on the type of tree, the size of the stump, and your climate.
