CLOSED: CLOSED: CLOSED: Is this some kind of Cocoon?

North Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Before I got my Digital Microscope I sent pics of these things using just my phone camera. FlapDoodle couldn't identify the out of focus pics, thought it might be a disease.

Could we try again, please? Also, I put some of the 'infected' leaves in a container, closed the lid and forgot about them. When I opened the container a day or two later, I found they HATCHED!! Pic was with phone camera, but it proves that they're insects, not a disease. Yes, the Bell Pepper leaves with these on them were the ONLY thing in the container.

I've controlled the mass infestation, but I still see them in smaller numbers.
Could you ID and tell me if they are harmful, please?
Thanks, Diane

Were any of these actually moving? I can see nothing in these images that I would unequivocally call an insect...

Found more pics that might help with ID the cocoon thing.

PS----Are those brownish-red Aphids a different kind than my regular
green Aphid, or are they the green ones, but sick or dying?

Thanks, Diane

Sorry FlaoDoodle , I was typing this while your reply was being sent.
I don't remember if I saw any of them moving or not, but Something about them had me convinced that they "Hatched" from that web/cocoon looking like thing.
Dang, I really, really would like to know what they are. I have one more pic I can send if you don't mind.

One last one...lol
If they're NOT bugs, what could they be?

They had to get from point A to point B--right?

You can kind of see legs on the last pic. Sorry it's such a poor pic.

(1) Aphids can come in a variety of colors, including various shades of red.
(2) Other than the aphids, the only insect-like objects I can see in any of your images are some tiny, very pale critters in the fourth image that look like they could be either immature springtails (order Collembola) or very young aphids. In either case, they would not have emerged from any cocoon-like structure...

Dear Flapdoodle,

Well, I guess I'll never know. Thanks so much for replying and trying.
I do appreciate it.
If you don't know, nobody does--here at least.

Are you an Entomologist? You seem very knowledgeable about insects.
I've just never seen anything like this before and VERY curious about what it is. Do you think it's some kind of fungus?

Do you have any suggestions as to what direction to go for answers
about this "stuff"?

Thanks for all your help,
Diane

A fungus of some sort certainly could be a possible explanation for the 'cocoon-like' structure.

I have been fascinated by insects since first observing their habits on our family farm near Minot, ND back in the late 1940s...
