Happy Diwali
I send you greeting also! Jo
Very interesting reading on that link! I enjoy reading about other cultures and beliefs and their customs.
Zany I think its in understanding other countries and cultures that we can create tolerance, if nothing else. Peace in our time maybe a far off dream but I don't believe its impossible.
Thank you very much Baa. In the South here, we call it Deepavali. (Deepa means light)

Info in the hyperlink is good. Very thoughtful, Baa.
You are so right about that Baa! There can be no peace without understanding!
Thank you Dinu
Some of my ex collegues were celebrating on Saturday as well as yesterday. I didn't go to the party owing to my mother who thought she had told me about the invite, she appeared at the party and everyone asked where I was LOL. Maybe next year!
I just went back to the thread you'd started --"fireworks". My ear-plugs came in handy this time -- those neighbours. I hate the sound. My daughters played only with the 'sparklers' and the 'flowerpots'. I wonder how people living in congested localities can tolerate the 'bangs'of those 'blooming busters'. Ten thousand thundering typhoons ****.
LOL Dinu
There has been such a noise here with Bonfire Night and Diwali they seem to have run into one another! I love your description of the noise, spot on.
Vocabulary from Tintin Comics!! Captain Haddock has many other lovely words when he scolds or when he is unhappy. There was an old Anglo-Indian lady, my friend, here who used to use the word 'blooming' profusely. The pollutiion the crackers make is being looked at seriously by the public. Some schools organized a silent march to protest bursting of crackers. Also, there is 'child labour' involved in the manufacture of crackers and they are against that too. Awareness is being created. Let's hope the good things happen. Smoking is being banned in public places.
