I just today noticed several of these in my backyard near my garden. He looks pretty yucky but since I don't know what they are I didn't smoosh them. Should I have?

Thank you! I will be doing a lot of smoothing. I have never seen these before but when they decided to come to my garden they brought all their friends and family! I counted 8 while I was cleaning out the flower beds earlier. Ugh!
