To Flapdoodle: You're Right! After reading your post, I learned more about the hellgrammite. ..the aquatic larva of the Dobsonfly. I also looked at pics of 2 species of fishflies in my area. None looked like the photo of the crawly I had. So I asked the person who sent me the photo to try to find the critter. Strangely, it was just where she left it. Her new photo of the vef.ntral side clearly showed 2 hooks and the loop to attach the line. This is really a DUH moment.
