If I need to soak these, then for how long do I need to do this before planting? Some nurseries say not to soak, some say just for 20 min., some say overnight. I just received 6 heliopsis (false sunflowers) bare-roots by mail. They look slightly damp, slightly dry...It's a bit confusing to this new gardener. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Bare-root perennials: Soak before planting?
I'd suggest long enough for them to plump up if they look "wrinkly" and you are ready to plant as soon as possible. Best thing is to plant right away and water in well when you put them in the ground or pot. If you don't have time to plant then make sure you change the water often as they will rot due to the water "souring". (Check the water for turning sour at least once a day).
