Is this a banana spider?

Sure was big, almost the size of my fully opened hand. Pretty markings.

Seems to be an Argiope aka yellow garden spider (among other names) pretty harmless and fun to watch.

thank you very much. I think it is indeed an Argiope aurantia. When I went to the TAMU website, it says that it is often confused with a banana spider.

It is not a dangerous spider but I have to admit it startled the life out of me as the one I saw was as big as my open hand. That is big!
