HELP identifying a spider

Hello,

I am part of a bugs group and someone who lives in Mexico shared this photo and asked for help identifying it. We are really struggling, can anyone here help?

This appears to be an orb-weaving spider; the leg posture is typical of those in the genus Argiope (see http://img1.photographersdirect.com/img/8818/wm/pd1107519.jpg for an example), but I do not believe that it belongs to that genus...

Thank you, it's a weird one, i cannot seem to find any pictures that look quite like it.
