Shows up every year around August and flies around/lands on the wood on our deck. Please help identify and are they harmful?
Please help me identify this bug!
It's a bee fly (family Bombyliidae) in the genus Xenox - see
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20p?see=I_SOP2217&res=640 for an example.
Their larvae feed on the larvae of bumble bees...
