Tree ID

Saint Louis, MO(Zone 6a)

I don't recognize this conifer. Located in Western Ukraine (Lviv) in a botanical garden.
Pendulous foliage. I couldn't find any cones. Didn't have a good camera with me.

Wow Weerobin, you go to a war zone and still take plant pictures!

Sadly, came back to a war zone, too...

Metasequoia.

Thanks, Resin. I thought the more proximal foliage looked like metasequoia also, but I haven't seen the fine-textured pendant foliage at the ends of the branches before. I have a 30ft metasequoia in my yard and I've never seen that feature before. Mine is roughly the same height as this specimen. Mine has a slightly pendent aspect to the ends of the branches, but none of the sharply drooping fine textured foliage. Is it just variance within the species or is it a boy/girl thing?

It's a 'boy' thing - those are the developing pollen cones. They only develop on older specimens.

The seed cones develop in the upper crown (less easy to see, until after autumn leaf fall), and often also on younger trees.

Here's a close-up of the immature pollen cones

Lviv is well outside the war zone (which is in eastern Ukraine)

The turmoil had virtually no impact on our trip. It's a great city.
